Practice Better alternative
I am Tim Kors, IFM Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. I opened my clinic in 2006 and started building this software in 2017 because Practice Better was built for the coaching version of this work, not the clinical one. When practitioners ask me for a Practice Better alternative, they are usually not looking for a fight. They already have a shortlist. They want to know whether the next tool will hold a long-form intake, labs from the labs they already use, and a treatment plan the patient can actually follow.
Practice Better is well built for what it targets: coaching programmes, nutrition packages, wellness memberships. It is not built for a clinical intake, a lab request to any provider, an infusion protocol, or a treatment plan that mixes supplements with medication. That is what this page is about.
Practice Better is a real product, used by real clinics. I am not going to publish a feature table or invent scores. Look at both. Here is the work Practiceflow was built for: long consults, mixed labs, supplements plus medication plus infusions plus nutrition in one file, and follow-up that does not live in someone’s head.
This page is the honest comparison from a clinic, not an attack ad. If your practice looks like a coaching programme with light labs, a different product may be the fit. If your practice looks like mine, read on, then walk the product tour or start for free.

The work a Practice Better alternative has to hold
A first functional medicine visit is not a fifteen-minute check-in. Timeline, environment, sleep, diet, medication, prior labs, family history, what has already been tried. If the chart was built for programmes and packages first, the real record ends up in a side document. That is where evenings go.
Practiceflow assumes the visit is long. Appointments open into the patient file. Interview reports use templates you control. The medication overview and the emerging plan sit on the same chart while you are still in the room. That is the job of functional medicine software, not a calendar with a notes box.
Ricky Crompvoets, a functional nutritionist using the product, put the operational point this way: “With Practiceflow, I can do patient file management at least 50% faster.” That is his published sentence.
Labs and plans, not a bolted shop
You request labs from the labs you already work with. Results come back in different PDFs and portals. Then you write a plan: supplements, medication, maybe an infusion, nutrition, a retest window. A Practice Better alternative for this shape of clinic has to keep that arc in one place — not as a storefront with a chart attached.
In Practiceflow, lab requests are logged against the patient. Repeat panels can be reordered from the last request. A plan prints as one PDF. Reminders sit on the plan so a twelve-week protocol does not stall at week seven. Fullscript is connecting now; you can already link prescribed supplements to a webshop you use.
If you are comparing how the file actually behaves, the close-ups are the functional medicine EMR and EHR pages. This page is only the alternative question: does the tool assume your consult, or a programme card?
I still sit across the desk for a long intake. The software I would not use is the one that makes me reconstruct that intake after the person has gone home. A Practice Better alternative for this clinic has to pass that test on a Tuesday, not in a demo script.
How to look at both without a scorecard
Ignore dashboard screenshots. Ask whether the chart assumes a long-form intake. Ask whether you can keep the labs you already use. Ask whether a treatment plan can mix supplements, medication, infusions and nutrition in one document. Ask whether follow-up lives on the plan.
Practice Better will fit some practices well. I built Practiceflow because nothing on my shortlist held my clinic: IFM-style intakes, labs from any provider I already used, plans that mixed infusions and nutrition, quotes that should not live in a spreadsheet.

I still run a practice. The comparison that survives is whether Tuesday night is still admin. Look at Practice Better. Look at Practiceflow. Choose the file that matches the consult you actually sit in — then start free if that file is ours.
What I would ask on a demo of either product
Open a long-form intake. Ask where the last labs live. Ask whether a plan can include supplements, medication, an infusion and nutrition without exporting to a side document. Ask where follow-up lives when the protocol is twelve weeks. Those questions do not need a feature table.
Practiceflow is the file I wanted open during that visit. The category view is functional medicine software. Cerbo and OptiMantra sit on sister pages if those names are already on your shortlist. Hero EMR appears on functional and integrative lists; I name it because you already do.

Practice Better, Cerbo, OptiMantra, Hero EMR — and this clinic
Practices comparing this category usually already know the names. Practice Better shows up when a practice wants client management and programmes. Cerbo and OptiMantra show up when people want more clinical depth. Hero EMR appears on lists of functional and integrative charts. Each of those tools will fit some clinics well.
None of them was the shape of my clinic. Look at both. Here is the work we were built for. Then read the category page if you want the longer argument.
From practitioners already using it
These are the published quotes, word for word. No invented reviews.

“With Practiceflow, I keep track of my patient interview reports in a very user-friendly way. Also, I have a particularly good overview of the total treatment for the client. A real 'all-in-one solution': everything is clear from the first appointment to the last treatment. As a result, considerably fewer questions via email/telephone.”

“I work as a functional medicine doctor. With the software, a patient-personalized treatment plan is ready in a matter of minutes. Requesting lab tests and using text templates also saves me a lot of time, so I have more time and focus for the patient.”

“As a functional nutritionist, I use the software to make treatment plans and interview reports. Practiceflow is very user-friendly, easy to use, and easy to learn. With Practiceflow, I can do patient file management at least 50% faster.”
